Ropeways use sheaves to keep the wire rope circulating. When the wire rope passes through the sheaves, it is forcibly bent and subject to fatigue. This equipment for testing rope fatigue strength creates a situation in which the wire rope keeps going round, and measures the degree of fatigue (elongation, wire break, etc.) after a certain number of bending cycles. The device circulates the wire rope until it has been bent approximately 300,000 times.
